/IGN Entertainment to host and support exclusive livestream debuting first 501(c)3 dedicated to digital video game preservation.
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 21, 2017 -- IGN Entertainment announced today it’s partnering with the newly launched Video Game History Foundation to present the IGN Save Point Live Stream on Monday, February 27 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM PT.
The five-hour livestream, produced by IGN, in association with Video Game History Foundation, will stream from IGN’s global headquarters in San Francisco, California. Hosted by IGN’s Daemon Hatfield, the livestream marks the public debut of the VGHF, and will feature an elite lineup of the gaming industry's top influencers and developers. The livestream will offer gaming enthusiasts worldwide a front row seat to the excitement of the foundation’s mission first-hand.
Brian Altano, Max Scoville, Sam Claiborn and Jose Otero of IGN Entertainment, Jared Petty of Electronic Arts, Mary Kish of Twitch, Mike Mahardy and Peter Brown of GameSpot, Alexa Ray Corriea of Ellation, celebrity gaming host Andrea Rene and other special guests will be in attendance. Co-founders of the Video Game History Foundation, Frank Cifaldi and Steve Lin will also be making appearances throughout the stream, answering questions taken directly from IGN’s Twitter page, enabling fans to participate in the livestream real time, and showcasing rare and unreleased games and ephemera from throughout gaming’s history
“There’s no better way to express the importance of saving video game history than to actually show the work being done,” said Frank Cifaldi, director of the Video Game History Foundation. “Some of the games we’re playing on the stream only exist because people went the extra mile to save them, and we’re excited to make our public debut by sharing these finds with such a large audience."
The livestream is also serving as the VGHF’s first fundraising event. Tax-deductible donations made during the stream will go directly toward the nonprofit’s operating costs, helping to ensure that rare historical artifacts are discovered, digitized, and made accessible to researchers before they are lost. Supporters of video game preservation and the foundation may subscribe to the official VGHF newsletter found on the VGHF website.
